Endowed Scholarship Purpose
The UTA Cadet Corps Alumni Chapter (CCAC) hereby gives
$10,000.00 to the Board of Regents of The University
of Texas System for the use and benefit of The University
of Texas at Arlington. Said gift shall be used to establish
The University of Texas at Arlington Cadet Corps Alumni
Chapter Endowed Scholarship. Distributions from the
endowment will be used to provide financial assistance
to U.S. Army Military Science cadets enrolled at The
University of Texas at Arlington.
Award
The award may be used for tuition, fees and books for
the awardee(s). The award may also be used for room
and board and other living essentials for the awardee(s).
The award may be renewed for up to 4 years as long as
a minimum 2.8 GPA is maintained. Distribution of the
award will be made by the University of Texas at Arlington
and dispersed through the University's accounting system.
All distributions from the endowment will reinvest into
the corpus of the endowment and no awards will be made
from the endowment until the principal reaches $25,000.
Then, no more than 80% of the fund's annual earnings
on the principal may be distributed as awards each year.
The goal is to build the endowment fund year after year.
The 80% of annual earnings distributed may be given
as one award, or as several awards to different students,
at the discretion of the Awards Committee. The remaining
20% of the endowment's annual earnings will reinvest
into the corpus of the endowment.
Eligibility
In awarding scholarship monies, the Awards Committee
will have the option of offering the award(s) to students
who have successfully completed two semesters at UTA
in the U.S. Army Military Science program (and who have
maintained an average GPA of 2.8 for all courses), or
of offering the award(s) to recruit outstanding prospective
students into the U.S. Army Military Science program
at UTA. The student(s) must demonstrate a strong interest
in serving in the U.S. Army upon graduation, and be
committed to the pursuit of an Army commission. All
applicants must be recommended by the Military Science
Department as worthy candidates for the award(s).
Factors in Selection
Candidates should be nominated and selected based on
the following criteria, in order of importance:
- Military leadership potential
- Character and integrity
- High academic achievement
- Financial need
Administration
This endowment shall never become a part of the Permanent
University Fund, the Available University Fund or the
General Fund of the State of Texas, and shall never
be subject to appropriation by the Legislature of the
State of Texas. All future additions to this endowment
shall be subject to the provisions of this instrument.
If, in the opinion of the Board of Regents of The University
of Texas System, future circumstances change so that
the purposes for which the endowment is established
become illegal, impractical, or obsolete, said Board
of Regents may designate an alternative use for the
endowment payout to further the goals of The University
of Texas at Arlington, so long as the alternative use
remains consistent with the objective of providing scholarships
and financial aid to Military Science students at UTA.
Or, in the absence of a Military Science program at
UTA, the scholarships and financial aid would go to
other UTA students.
This endowment may be merged or commingled with other
funds held by the Board of Regents of The University
of Texas System for investment purposes in accordance
with the policies of the Board of Regents. Funds distributed
from the endowment in a year may be retained and expended
for the purposes of the endowment in subsequent years,
or may be reinvested at the discretion of the Board
of Regents or The University of Texas at Arlington administration,
as a permanent addition to the principal of the Cadet
Corps Endowed Scholarship fund.
Application Process
Prospective award recipients will be required to complete
an application form furnished by the Military Science
Department. Such application will be made by a date
specified by the Military Science Department. Applicants
will also provide transcripts, letters of recommendation
from one or more officers of the Military Science Department,
and other documentation the Military Science Department
might require. Due dates and application procedures
will be established by the UTA Military Science Department.
The recipient(s) of the award(s) may apply for renewal
of the scholarship for up to three years (i.e., a grand
total of four years-the first year plus renewal for
three years).
The Awards Committee will be made up of the President
of CCAC, two Vice Presidents of CACC appointed by the
CCAC President, an Alumni Association staff member appointed
by the Director of the Alumni Association and a designee
appointed by the UTA Director of Development. Each member
of the Awards Committee will have equal vote, with any
"tie vote" to be decided by the CCAC President.
The Awards Committee will be advised by a non-voting
Military Science staff member appointed by the Professor
of Military Science, who will present the applications
to the Awards Committee along with his/her advice and
counsel. The Awards Committee will recommend who receives
the award(s) with final selection by the President of
the University or President's designee. |
